Adaptation: Talking Points for 4/21

Be sure to bring your text with the fairytale "The Little Mermaid" to class with two passages marked that surprised you. Talking points:
1) Which parts of the fairytale surprised you? Why?
2) Would you recommend this story for children?
3) What's going on near the end of the fairytale?
4) What is this story about?

Final Paper Proposals:

As of the morning of 4/18, we have yet to receive proposals from:
Mollie, Chris E., Sydney, Jackson, Savana, Diana, Colton, Richard, Toni (in progress), Chris K., and Amelia.
Remember, you need to allow time for us to approve the proposal before you write it, and approval isn't necessarily automatic.

Talking Points for Philadelphia:
1) Does the film seem contemporary, or does it seem like it's from another era?
2) What's the point of the opera scene?
3) How does the film use various characters to represent a spectrum of reactions to gays? To the AIDS epidemic?

Law in Film for 4/14

Now that almost everyone has had their Final Paper conference, some of you have to tweak your proposals so that they can be approved. You can either email Marty & Jay the proposal or turn it in during class. So far, the only approvals have been for Mike, David and Rachel.

Meanwhile, we'll be watching Philadelphia in class on 4/14. Be sure to read the New York Times review.
